Announcement

Dr. McCullum Mejia will be leaving her position at Lakeshore Rheumatology and relocating due to family circumstances. While she is no longer accepting new patients, she remains dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition of care for her current patients. We are delighted to welcome Dr. Leslie Benny, D.O. to our clinic who is available to see our current patients for continuity of care. Dr. Benny will be continuing the tradition of compassionate, high-quality care for our patients.

About Us

Lakeshore Rheumatology is a privately owned medical clinic. We thank the Winter Garden and greater Orlando residents for welcoming us into the community since January 2022.

We do require a referral from another Physician prior to being seen, regardless of your insurance plan, as we value our colleagues’ medical opinions and assessments.

Leslie Benny, D.O.

RHEUMATOLOGIST
Dr. Benny is a double board-certified physician in rheumatology and internal medicine, demonstrating extensive clinical proficiency in rheumatologic conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Gout, Lupus, Sjogren's, Scleroderma, Vasculitis, Myositis, inflammatory back pain (Ankylosis Spondylitis) and others. Large-scale practical experience has allowed him to deliver the most compassionate, skillful, and up-to-date care to his patients, yielding desirable outcomes, improved quality of life, and restoring functional activity.
Dr. Benny's practice is focused on educating his patients on diagnosis and related treatment options and he encourages his patients to be active and informed throughout his care planning.
Dr. Benny is a long term Orlando resident, having completed his undergraduate in microbiology & molecular biology at University of Central Florida and completing his medical training at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine-Bradenton (Bradenton, FL). Additionally, Dr. Benny served as Chief Resident for Larkin Community Hospital during his Rheumatology training.
Dr. Benny holds Rheumatology and AOBIM Certifications with the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine.
Andrea McCullum Mejia, D.O., Pharm.D.

RHEUMATOLOGIST
Dr. McCullum graduated from medical school at the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pikeville, KY in 2016. She completed Internal Medicine residency at The University of Kentucky in Bowling Green, KY in 2019 and is board certified in Internal Medicine. In June 2021, she completed Rheumatology fellowship through a University of South Florida program based in Hudson, FL.
Dr. McCullum is also a Pharmacist, graduated from the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy in Pittsburgh, PA in 2009. She worked as a community Pharmacist and taught an after school pre-pharmacy course to high school students in the Louisville, KY area until 2012 when she pursued a career in medicine.
Dr. McCullum serves as a Founding Faculty member of the proposed Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is also a preceptor for the University of Florida College of Pharmacy.
In her free time, she enjoys being a mom and spending time with her husband, son, and daughter.
Juan Carlos Mejia, M.D.

INTERNAL MEDICINE PHYSICIAN
Dr. Mejia is originally from Cali, Colombia. He attended medical school at Universidad Libre and later completed training at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA where he graduated as Internal Medicine physician. He is board certified in Internal Medicine. He relocated to Kentucky in 2013 and practiced as a Hospital Physician where he met his beloved wife, Andrea McCullum. In 2019 they relocated to Florida to pursue further training and have been living in the area ever since. He practiced as Primary Care Physician in Tampa, then as a Hospital Physician at Clermont since 2021. Dr. Mejia has now joined his wife at the clinic focusing his knowledge and experience in Rheumatology with a particular interest in Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Psoriatic Arthritis, and Osteoporosis. He is very passionate about medicine and genuinely cares about his patients. Dr. Mejia is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Dr. Mejia loves to spend good quality time with his wife and 2 kids, traveling, going to the beach and doing outdoor activities. He also loves animals, particularly dogs and horses and enjoys living out in the country.
